Your personal data is your capital for the future

Why we build MindDuck and what we think will happen to your conversations with AI in five years

Dmitriy Klein, the author of MindDuck · October 2026

WHAT IS WRONG?

Three years of conversations with different AIs. Where are they now?

They lock you in

Your ChatGPT conversations do not move to Claude. Switching models means starting from zero and losing years of built-up context

Their memory is a black box

You cannot see what exactly they remembered or correct it, and much still has to be explained again in every new chat

You own nothing

Your history sits on the servers of the provider and lives by their rules (your chats are used to train models, get reviewed, and so on). For a lawyer, doctor, journalist, writer or founder that is a real problem - a reason not to use AI at all

They build a file on you

Your AI conversations are the most detailed file there is on you: work, health, money, relationships, plans. The company that stores them can build a profile from them and use it for its own purposes - for advertising, for example

Renting or saving

Models are becoming a commodity

A year from now there will be a model smarter than today's, and everyone will have it. But only the one you give your memory to will know what you are working on, what you have already tried and what you decided

Models

  • Get smarter and cheaper every few months
  • Equally available to everyone
  • Easily replace one another

Your memory

  • Grows with every conversation
  • Belongs only to you
  • Makes any new model useful from the very first request

It already happened with hosting, storage and computing: what used to be an advantage became a line in a price list. The same is happening with models, only faster. Your context cannot be bought from anyone, it exists only with you. It is what remains an advantage

A subscription to a cloud assistant is like renting: you pay every month, and everything you discussed stays with the service, in its format and under its rules. In MindDuck every conversation goes into your base, like a deposit into your own account. The more you work, the more is saved there and the more precisely the assistant answers next time. Context works like compound interest: every answer builds on everything that came before it

MindDuckPay for models directly, 1-2 cents per answer. And open models get smarter and cheaper every year

MindDuckWhen the AI right on your computer is smart enough, you switch off the cloud and lose nothing: it already knows everything you have discussed

When local AI is smart enough, you will be ready: your memory is already with you

Cloud assistants are ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and similar services as they come. Comparison as of October 2026

Principles

What we believe

Models will become a commodity. The value is in your context

So MindDuck is tied to no model and does not make its own

Your memory is your property, not an asset of a provider

So we have no server with your data

Memory should be transparent: you can see what is in it

So every fact is shown with its source and date, and you can correct or delete it

You can leave at any time and take everything with you

So export to open formats was one of the first things we built

Programmers know: if you want to understand why your code does not work, explain it to the rubber duck on your desk

Our duck does not just listen - it remembers everything, answers and actually helps!

Why I built this

I built MindDuck for myself

I was tired of explaining to AI over and over what I am working on. And I did not want years of my conversations to live on someone else's servers. Models change every six months, but what I discussed with them should stay mine and keep working for me with any new model

MindDuck is in beta now. If you want an assistant like this too - let's finish it together!
