Sync keeps one workspace on all your devices. It's optional: without it MindDuck works fully on one device.
Sync works through Google Drive. Other storage options are planned.
Through your Google Drive, encrypted
The MindDuck server doesn't take part in moving your workspace's content. Devices exchange changes through your Google Drive:
- everything is encrypted on the device before it is sent, so Google can't read the data;
- MindDuck sees only its own hidden folder in Drive and has no access to your files;
- all devices must sign in to the same Google account.
Your mindduck.app account is needed for access to the app and is connected separately. It doesn't store the workspace and doesn't replace Google Drive. Your MindDuck email and your Google email can differ. See Account.
What syncs
Chats, documents and their versions, facts, projects, the trash, assistant settings, service connections together with their keys, and the list of devices.
Images move to other devices as reduced previews, and PDFs only as text. The originals stay on the device where they were added.
When
Sync runs while MindDuck is open: at launch, shortly after changes, when you return to the app and when the internet comes back. Sync now at the bottom of the sidebar runs it right away, and the icon next to it shows the state.
If MindDuck stays open on two devices at the same time for long stretches, turn on Check Google Drive while this app is open on Sync & backup. This setting applies to this device only.
A new device and search
A new device first receives chats, documents and memory, all at once when the download finishes. Search data comes after that: other devices send theirs ready, so it doesn't have to be computed again. While it loads, Background tasks is active in the sidebar, and you can use the app.
You can follow the transfer on Sync & backup in the Shared search data block. Send ready search data sends this device's ready data right away without waiting for sync. If some data waits for another device for a long time, the Why sources wait row explains why. Most often it helps to update MindDuck on all devices and open it there.
