Your account on mindduck.app holds your access to MindDuck (the beta, a trial or a license) and the list of devices. The site and the app use one account with the same email.
To write, use AI, import history and edit documents, you need to sign in inside the app and have active access. This applies to local models too. You can read, search and export the data you already have without signing in.
Signing in doesn't send your chats, documents, memory, files or AI service keys to the site. The account doesn't store the workspace and doesn't open it on another device.
Account, workspace and Google Drive
| What | What for | How to connect |
|---|---|---|
| MindDuck account | Access to the app, licenses and devices on mindduck.app | Settings → Account → Sign in |
| Workspace | The encrypted base with chats, documents and memory | Create it on first launch, connect it from another device or restore it from a backup |
| Google account | Your Google Drive for syncing the workspace | Settings → Sync & backup → Connect Drive |
Your Google email can differ from your MindDuck account email. To sync one workspace on all devices you need the same Google account. Signing in to MindDuck doesn't connect Drive, and signing in to Google doesn't give access to the app. See Connecting Google Drive.
Signing in
- Open Settings → Account and click Sign in. mindduck.app opens in the browser.
- If you aren't signed in on the site yet, enter your email and the code from the email. There is no password; the first successful sign-in creates the account automatically. If you're already signed in, a confirmation for connecting the app appears right away.
- Check the email on the page. Use the account that holds your beta, trial or license. If a different email is shown, click "Not you? Sign out" and sign in to the right account.
- Click "Allow and return to the app". If MindDuck didn't open by itself, go back to it. The Account screen shows your email and access status.
Signing in on the site and in the app are confirmed separately: an open account page in the browser doesn't connect MindDuck yet. Start connecting with the Sign in button in the app. You sign in once on each device; updating the app doesn't reset it.
The i icon next to the title explains why signing in is needed and what the site knows about you.
Beta, trial and license
Your account on the site shows your licenses, access terms and the number of available devices. If you sign in for the first time, creating the account doesn't by itself mean you're in the beta.
If the app shows No access yet, click Open the beta page on the Account screen or Join the beta on the banner. Sign up on the site; it shows whether places are available and whether an invitation code is needed. Once you have a place, return to the app and click Refresh in the Last checked row.
The term of a granted beta starts with your first sign-in in the app. If your access is shown as waiting to start, click Refresh. A trial is granted on the first sign-in from the app if the site's terms offer it. Check terms and available purchases, renewals and coupons in your account on the site: they depend on the current terms.
MindDuck learns about changes to your access during its daily check or right away when you click Refresh. Checking for a new version is a separate action: Check in the Version row. See Updates.
If you run out of device places
The device limit depends on your access and is shown on the site; by default it's three devices. When the limit is reached, MindDuck shows the devices already connected and offers to disconnect one (Remove and sign in here). A disconnected device only signs out of the account; its data stays where it is.
This is the list of the account's devices, while Settings → Devices → Workspace devices is the list of the workspace's devices. Disconnecting in the account doesn't revoke access to workspace sync. If a device is lost, also revoke it from the workspace.
What the site knows
- Your email, to send the sign-in code.
- Your access and its terms.
- For each device: its name, platform, MindDuck version, the time of its last check and a random installation number.
The Devices & billing row opens your account on the site. If the browser isn't signed in yet, sign in with the same email shown in the app. It shows the same device list, your licenses and what you can do with them.
The site also receives your support messages and their attachments when you send them yourself. See Support and diagnostics and What is stored where and what is sent.
Without the internet
MindDuck checks your access about once a day when there is a network. Without a network it works on the saved confirmation of access for up to 45 days from the last successful check, but no longer than the beta or trial term. The first sign-in needs the internet. Cloud models need the internet after signing in too; a local model can work offline while your access is valid.
A perpetual license keeps working after the saved confirmation expires: MindDuck asks you to go online and refresh the status.
Signing out
Sign out of this device (after confirmation) frees this device's place in the account. Nothing on the device is deleted. To sign in again, click Sign in.
Signing out of your account in the browser and signing out of the app are separate actions. Sign out of this device doesn't disconnect Google Drive and doesn't delete the workspace.
If the device was disconnected on the site, MindDuck signs out of the account by itself on the next check and tells you on the Account screen.
Without access
If you're not signed in, your beta or trial ended, you don't have access yet, or MindDuck hasn't been able to confirm your access for a long time, the app switches to read-only mode. A banner at the top shows the reason and one button: Sign in, Refresh status, Join the beta or See options.
Always available: opening and reading chats, documents and memory, search, export, deleting and the trash, renaming, archiving, moving to a project, settings, signing in and sync. Nothing is deleted or locked.
Not available until access returns: new messages and assistant answers, speech recognition, chat summaries and topics, image analysis, new documents and editing their text, PDF and chat import, new memory facts and editing them.
A saved perpetual license doesn't switch to read-only mode because of a long time without a network: MindDuck only asks you to refresh the status. If you sign out of the account or the site confirms that access was revoked, the general no-access mode applies.
